Football Results 2017

Well for the 7th week in a row we lost an important toss as the wind was assisting the Young st end at Frankston with a 4-5 goal advantage.

This weeks culprit was at the hands of A-Mac who we welcomed back after a 2 week stint on the side lines for striking a Seaford player in Rnd 4.
Once again we focused on getting a good start, this backfired somewhat with Mt Eliza kicking 6.7 to our 2 points in the 1st 1/4.

With our backs to the wall early and now kicking with the aid of a breeze in the 2nd, Sharp pointed out some areas we needed to pick up on if we were to remain in touch. To the groups credit, they had some very good passages of play which caught Mount off guard. We scored 3.4 to 2.1 and found ourselves down by 32 points at the main break.
The 3rd quarter was meant to be the one that was going to give us a chance to stay within striking distance of Mt Eliza knowing we had the 4-5 goal assistance to come home with.

Unfortunately this was not the case with Mt Eliza piling on 9.3 to our 2 straight goals.
Sharpy pointed out to the young group (not Burke) at 3/4 time that it was important to show some pride in the Karingal jumper and play for your members, supporters and mates.

It was a strong battle in the last 1/4 which we out scored Mt with a 2.3 to 2.1 effort.
Once again we hit the training track with our compulsory review Tuesday before training, then again on Thursday in a good lead up to Edi/Asp this Saturday away.
Jake Kelly with 4 goals was the best player for Karingal whilst Steve Mihevc took the mark of the year but failed to convert on his shot for goal which was not even close

The reserves came up against Mt.Eliza this week who were undefeated. We went in confident of a good contest and we started off well. kicking into a stiff breeze we held our own around the contest with Az Jack and Simmo laying some strong tackles. The 2nd quarter we had our fair share of the ball but our delivery to our forwards was shocking and didn’t give ourselves enough opportunities to put Mt.Eliza under any pressure. We missed some easy shots which also didn’t help.

We stayed positive in the last half and our midfielders were going well, however we got beaten on the outside and despite the best efforts of Damon, Phippsy and Darcy down back they scored a few easy goals. In the end we went down by about 12 goals, but the scoreline doesn’t reflect how competitive we were.

Best Players for the day were, Az, Darcy, Simmo, Burnsey and Kracka.

We are not far away from our first win, with a couple of big opportunities in the next couple of weeks. We need to stay positive, keep working hard and the results will come.

Under 19:

Once again a very sluggish start saw us jumped and before we could blink we were 5 goals down. A late goal from Hinde saw us register our first. The boys came out with a renewed thirst for the contest and pressured the opposition for the next 2 quarters which resulted in us winning both quarters and bridge the gap.

McClenahan and Murray were fantastic in the ruck while Villella, Baker and Lord were winning the hard ball in the middle. We had all the momentum but no bench for the last quarter so was going to be tough but again the boys cracked in. MtEliza kicked the first to get out to a 3 goal lead and the boys were spent.

Some real positives to come out of the game but just have to adjust the mindset when we turn up to the game and start with more endeavour. Great signs up forward from Bennell in his best game this year and McInness continues his great form.

Best wishes to young Cody who got us going early in the second quarter with his fierce attack on the ball but was injured in the remaining minutes of the game with a serious back injury. We wish him all the best in his recovery.
