Football Results 2017 (3)

Always a big challenge playing YC on their home ground and with conditions better suited to flying kites it was going to be a test of character and effort all day.

We started the first quarter well and hit the scoreboard early, our spread and run had our opposition looking for answers.  Up by 2 goals at quarter time and full confidence.

The 2nd was a arm wrestle but more importunately we continued to hit the scoreboard and apply pressure on YC who struggled against our will to win every contest.  Half time 8 points up and looking to the 3rd with a heap of optimism.

The third started a little slowly with the ball being played between the arcs of both teams,  Jake Kelly was providing a headache for YC along with Dusch and Burkey creating numerous forward 50 entries. The team as a whole were out working there more fancied opponents and headed into ¾ time 26 points up.

We knew they would come hard and our intentions were to out work them for longer but somehow the current premiers seemed to get themselves back into the game through hard work and some strange whistle blowing. At the final siren we were 2 goals short and left pondering what could have been.

Our players deserve some high praise for their efforts and their resilience is very strong for such a young group.

Well done to big Max on his debut and great to see the players who are given the opportunity to play senior footy embrace the game plan.

More consistent players on the day – Team effort.

The reserves took on Frankston YCW in very windy conditions. After 2 wins on the trot, we were confident going in, despite 8 changes from the week before. We started a little flat with the wind,  turning the ball over and not manning up well enough. It took us 10 minutes to settle before we started playing some good footy. we had numerous forward entries but squandered some good opportunities.

The second qtr we held them ok. we were better in the contest but allowed them too much space going forward. Taz was playing well in the ruck and Az Jack was using his smarts on the wing. The 3rd qtr we tried a few different things to get on top.  We got beaten at the stoppages though which didn’t allow us any momentum.

The last qtr was ok. we let them kick 2 goals in the 1st 2 mins and another 2 in the last 2 mins. other than that we held them pretty well. We ended up going down by about 10 goals. We dropped our concentration at crucial times throughout the day which allowed them to kick easy goals while we wasted a lot of chances.

Best players for the day were, Az Jack, Taz, Darcy, Duncs and James Pretty.

We have 3 games to go. We should be aiming for at least another win and to finish of well. The more we put in at training, the better the results will be.

Under 19:

Huge game for us this week and the boys were focused for the challenge that presented itself. We kicked with the wind early and dominated the clearances from the start with plenty of forward 50 entries but yet again couldn’t convert the opportunities. We kicked 2 goals to nil and then had to defend into the wind.

That was the best part of our day as we did it well for a half and felt we controlled play for majority of the game. YCW kept coming all day and was going to go down to the wire.

We didn’t make the most of our opportunities in the third quarter to gain a match winning break although when Zane kicked a goal halfway thru the last into the wind to give us a 9 point break we were up and about.

The opposition showed why they are a great team and kept plugging away kicking 2 late to steal it away from us. We were pleased with the boys and their effort but now we must dig right in the last 3 games to get a crack at finals footy.

We can match it with any of the top 5 teams yet haven’t been able to field a full strength side all year.

Special mention to Brendan Lord who nearly single handedly got us home in a fantastic performance
