Football Results 2017

A few late changes and another debutant up against a Mornington team looking to get our scalp for the 2nd time this season.

The game started well with us having won the toss for the first time this season and chose to kick with a slight breeze at out back, we hit the scoreboard first and held a slight lead at the first break.

Our 2nd quarters usually produce some good strong committed football but not this week as we were given a lesson in ball movement & inside 50 efficiently. We turned a 8 point lead into a 50 point deficit.

Fast forward to the last as the 3rd was a non-event, we were playing for personal and team pride, we managed to outscore them 5 goals to 3 and get some small amount of respectability back.

Cal Dixon, Burkey and Grant Paxton were consistent all day with Izzy and Dizz playing there roles.

Well done to Andru Plakourakis on making your senior debut with many more to come.

We now re focus on our game against Langwarrin and come ready to play 4 full quarters.

Congrats to Jake Kelly(Vic u19s country) by all reports you represented the Karingal Football club and yourself with a fine performance last Saturday.

The reserves had a tough week this week with 12 changes to the team from the week before. We were a little undermanned, but keen to put in a big effort. We started off slow, with Morningtons extra numbers off half back running and providing options for them, our work in the contest was ok but we couldn’t go with them on the outside.

We let in 4 or 5 early goals to be down by 4 goals at qtr time. Our backline held up extremely well in the 2nd. Taz, Dyl and James were holding strong, but we struggled to score up the other end. For the 1st 10 mins of the 3rd qtr, we had all of the play. Hads, Az and Bobcat were winning the clearances but we missed some easy set shots which didn’t allow us to close the gap.

The last qtr was ok, with no rotations we were out on our feet, but still putting the effort in, we kicked a couple of quick goals early but in the end went down by about 11 goals. Best Players for the day were, Az, Hads, Taz and Dylan. It was a good effort considering the changes we had, we need to get a bit of consistency back and keep positive as im still confident our first win is not far away.

Lets get to training and look forward to Langwarrin this week.

Under 19:

Huge game for us to gain a break in the 5 and some breathing space. The 19s record has been deplorable at Mornington so we new this would be a huge task.

The first half they were first to the ball, played in front and simply worked a lot harder yet we kept managing to scrap goals when we desperately needed them. The 3rd quarter the boys game out focused and determined to crack in, it was a complete role reversal and dominated the quarter.

At one stage late we were 3 goals up and had all momentum but unfortunately that was it. The last 20 minutes the boys were out of gas, quite a few were ill during the week and couldn’t run the game out.

It was very disappointing but that’s footy, a continued injury run hasn’t helped all year but we will push forward and with the next 4 games against top 4 teams we will see exactly where we sit in the scheme of things.
