Football Results 2017 (1)

Playing at Frankston again this week had us up against Chelsea who pipped us on the line in our previous encounter by less than a goal meant we were out for swift revenge, with some youthful inclusions that included Nath Villella, Mason & Lordy we were loaded and ready play.

Our first quarter didn’t exactly go to plan and Chelsea went into the first quarter with a handy 27 point lead.  The noticeable difference was the ability to win the contested footy early and physicality  applied on our midfield.

The second quarter was a complete reversal with the entire team taking up the challenge and playing fantastic team first footy with a real desire to have impact on every single contest which resulted in our best quarter for the year kicking 8 goals and only 5 points down at the main break.

We opened the third quarter with 2 shots on goal but failed to register a goal and seemed to sap our belief for the next 20 minutes we played catch up footy again and found ourselves in a position at ¾ time down by 5 goals.  The boys fought out the last quarter with some strong desire but with LVR and Mihevc off injured left us short on rotations but this wasn’t the reason we lost we were just out played early and beaten on the day.

Pig Duhig played some of his best footy for the year, great to our skipper Cal Dixon continue his recent good form Burkey was in everything and young Nath Villella was very clean and picked won a lot of his own ball.

Our young side is learning every week and continue to develop, we will continue to invest and give them the time required to play good senior footy for Karingal for years to come

The reserves took on Chelsea with high hopes after a couple of key inclusions. We started off well, having all the play in the first 10 minutes, however we butchered the ball going forward and didn’t capitalise on our opportunities. again we let in easy goals to be down by 4 goals at qtr time.

We worked our way back into it in the 2nd qtr, Burnsey and AJ were getting plenty of the ball and our tackling pressure was really good, we kicked a couple of quick goals to have us back in the contest at half time.

We came out positive after half time, but we got beaten around the contest and played too loose on our opponents. Some simple skill errors also proved very costly. we let in 5 goals for the qtr which made it a long way back. We ran the game out ok, outscoring Chelsea in the last qtr, but in the end going down by about 7 goals.

We outscored Chelsea for 2 qtrs., however our 1st and 3rd qtrs let us down badly, We coughed up too many goals by turnovers and free kicks. We need to tighten up these areas to get our first win which I think we can.

Best players for the day were Burnsey, AJ, Zak, Darcey and Jackson.

We aren’t far away, but we need to get to training, otherwise we cant expect to improve, Lets get to training this week and work towards our first win. Go Bulls, Oz

Under 19:

A different side this week with 5 in the seniors and a few injuries again. Playing Chelsea at Frankston was a matter of cracking in early and trying to get on too early and consolidate.

Not quite how it panned out with a determined Chelsea outfit really making us work hard for it, only 2 goals seperate the teams throughout the first half as we couldn’t fit out rhythm, Beau Merdanovic went down early which left us short but after halftime the boys lifted the worked and started to link up and execute their skills as the ground dried out.

Murray was superb in the ruck and Bartling, Farrelly, Holton and Mcinnes were working hard through the middle of the ground. Our back six has been superb the last 4 weeks led by Saunders, Merdanovic and Stewart Fry and today was no exception repelling constant attacks.

A move forward for Hinde in the second half sparked us while Waddell continued his good form with 3 majors. Bennell, Nixon and Hookem applied great forward pressure for 4 quarters and Smyth was a handful all day.

In the end a 10 goal win was pleasing and now a top 3 standing is on the radar
