Bullettes GD Review: Prelim Finals 2016
Netball Thanks to Partners DECKING OUT MELBOURNE
A & B Grade:
Our B grade took on YCW for a spot in the grand final on Sunday. We always knew it was going to be a tight tussle. It was goal for goal for the entire game until last 10 minutes. We were down by a goal when we decided to make some changes hoping to find a way to edge in front. Unfortunately it didn’t go our way. Breanna N was outstanding in the defensive end as usual before we moved her forward to the goaling end hoping to mix things up a bit. Sarah A, Brooke C and Sara T ran hard through the midcourt all day. Ash B came on in the last 10 minutes hoping to give us some fresh legs and a spark. Tara and Jess were our dynamic goaling end but unfortunately a couple of missed opportunities late in the game at a crucial time really hurt us. Kim H was our best on for the day taking so many intercepts and rebounds down the defensive end and provided us with a lot of drives to set up our attack. We went down by 6 goals. I have no doubt this will keep burning inside our girls over the summer and we will 100 percent bounce back bigger and stronger and hungrier than ever before and be back standing on the podium just like last year.
A Grade took on Seaford also for a spot in the grand final. After some healthy wins against Seaford during the season the girls came into this game full of confidence that they could get the job done and this really showed on court. We welcomed back Courtney O and Michelle W who we missed in our first final. Jayde A played defence under the ring all day and as usual did a great job. Her aggression that’s channeled in the right way is something that we will need going into the game next week. Michelle W is an experienced defender who can also play under the ring and in the midcourt. Her work rate and attack on the ball is what sets us up going forward. Kate and Courtney could do no wrong in the midcourt as I set some challenges which they achieved throughout the game. Our goaling end with Mardi C and Emily B haven’t played together much but showed a lot of glimpses of terrific partnership. Matilda G was best on for the day as she dominated the defensive half and reads the play exceptionally and picks off intercept after intercept. Her drives back down the court are the exactly why we can set up our attack on goals so often. She is actually freakishly great at what she does. We won convincingly by 26 goals and this was a confidence boosting win that we needed going into the grand final which we all believe we can win the match as well. We cannot wait for this day. We are ready. Here we come. Go bullettes
C & D Grade:
Second week of finals saw D grade take on Mt Eliza. Previously our results we one win and one loss. We new coming into the game that it was going to be a tough one. However from the start we took control and played very strongly. The girls really showed why we deserve to be in the grand final next week. I am incredibly proud of how far this team has come this year and can’t wait for them to show their stuff on Sunday. Steph and Holly were extremely accurate and connected well in the ring. Laura Mc and Jess took control in the mid court and dominated. Kelly and Bec once again proved how tough they are to beat and stood strong in defense and capitalized on the rebounds. A great win by the girls and we look forward to taking on Edi Asp next week.
C grade took on YCW in the second week of finals. This was an emotional day for our team due to a few personal reasons. Luckily enough we were able to come out strong and take control of the game early on. Lead by our captain Sara Burke who didn’t let a ball get past her took intercepts and dragged in all of the rebounds. Both her a Mel Scott played so well together and are a great combination with both Kiah and Alison out in front in WD. Courtney and Taylah rang out the game in the mid court and linked together to feed our goalers well. As usual Mel C and Peyton were unstoppable in the goal circle. It was a fantastic win by the girls and we cannot wait to fight it out in the grand final next week against Edi Asp.
