Bullettes GD Review: Grand Finals
Grand final vs Edi Asp. What more could you want? We had great weather today down at jubilee park outdoor courts in Frankston. We started like a house on fire and we came out super hungry and determined to prove that we are the best. Unfortunately our attacking goal circle seems to be cursed as we lost another key player to a serious injury. Mardi went down with a knee injury in the first couple of minutes and we wish her all the best for a speedy recovery. Jayde, Matilda and Michelle were a force in defence. They rattled the goalers and attacking mid court and we capitalised early on their turnovers.
I put down some challenges once again for our attacking mid court in Kate and Courtney to have precise ball use and protect it at all costs and they blitzed it. Jess B was called in to replace Mardi and stepped up to the challenge and what a fantastic job she did. Emily really sparkled through our attacking goal ring. She barely missed a goal and her attacking drives were sensational. Then late in the game we had a lapse which you can never afford against a quality opposition like Edi Asp. We switched Tilly from the defensive end to goals after we had not scored for quite sometime. She proved she can play anywhere on court. Unfortunately it was a little too late and Edi-Asp were just more hungry than us when it counted in the last 10 mins. Renee B came on court in the last quarter after also suffering a serious injury a couple of weeks ago and did a terrific job considering she just came back from injury.
You should all be extremely proud of your efforts and I am so proud to have coached such a talented bunch of girls. We will come back next year even stronger to get our piece of cake. “Premiers 2017″. Thanks to Breanna N, Brooke C and Tara B for helping out on the bench and cheering so loud. To all the other supporters who came down today we thank you as well.
Thank you to Renae our netball president for all your hard work behind the scenes and good luck with the remainder of your pregnancy. Digger you are the best president we could have and thanks for all your support as well and thank you to our major sponsor Decking Out Melbourne!
Grand final weekend saw both C and D grade take on Edi-Asp. I am extremely proud of the season both teams have had and could not have been happier for both of the to make the grand final.C grade played one of their best games yet. We started strongly and came firing out of the blocks. The whole game was very close and was goal for goal for most of the match. The girls played incredibly well and really took the game up to edi asp. Peyton and Mel were unstoppable in the ring, Aided by Courtney and taylah in the mid court. Our defensive unit which consists of Sara, Mel s, Kiah and Alison helped to limit the goals scored by edi. In the last quarter edi stepped up their game and started to pull away.
Unfortunately Julia got injured in the last quarter, splitting her head open and getting concussion. We lost a lot of momentum and a few umpiring calls didn’t go our way which caused a gap on the score board. The girls can be proud of the effort they put in on Sunday and how their season has gone. I have really enjoyed my first year of coaching and I could not have asked for better girls to coach. Let’s hope we can improve on this years result next season. We will all come back bigger and stronger.
D grade started off the day with a cracking game. They started well and continued that for the rest of the game. Unfortunately though we had a few costly errors which enabled Edi Asp to get a few goals up. Bec and Kelly combined well in defence and capitalized on the loose balls.
Laura took control in the mid court and showed great leadership. Steph and Holly played really well in goals and shot very accurately.
I am very honored to have coached these girls this season and have enjoyed watching everyone one of them improve every week. We were just unfortunate that it wasn’t our day on Sunday however we will be fighting to be in the grand final again next year.
