Bullettes GD Review: Finals W1
NETBALL Thanks to Decking Out Melbourne
A & B Grade:
First week of finals saw us head to YCW outdoor courts to take on Seaford in B grade. The weather turned out perfect for netball. Last time we met Seaford we lost by 14 goals with a undermanned squad. Today we started off full of energy and bought extremely intense defensive pressure which in turn reflected the score board at quarter time when we were up by 7 goals. We knew the game would be played out a lot different than last time as we had majority of our original squad back in and we were confident as a group. This was one of our best starts all year and it came at the perfect time. We welcomed back Sara tanner from injury and she was on from the word go. She tore up the mid court and her feeding into our attacking goalers was nothing short of sensational. Jess Bird was also welcomed back from injury and continues to dominate the goal ring shooting at more than 90 percent. Our best on for the day was Kim H who got an average of 4 intercepts per quarter and many more defensive rebounds. In saying all of this all 8 players did a great job and we look forward to The challenge of YCW next week. Thanks so much to Mel S for stepping up and helping out for the day. We ran away with a comfortable win by 18 goals.
A grade did not get the start we were hoping for. We missed a couple of shots on goal early and this helped Edi-Asp gain confidence and we were playing catch up for the rest of the day. First quarter we made 8 basic skill errors with our ball use and great sides like Edi-Asp convert them and punish you. Jayde started in the attacking goal circle and to her credit did a fantastic job at bringing the physicality which we needed before moving her to the defensive ring which she continues to fight until the very end. I’m very proud of her determination and will to win. KKO was put under immense pressure playing alongside girls who were tired from their B grade game and once again controlled the midcourt and caused a few headaches for the opposition. Best on for the day was Matilda Garrett who showed exactly why she is an Australian player. Her grit, determination, elite skills and attacking drives are what makes her such a great player and a great person to coach. She’s an asset to the team/ club and held the defensive end together. Unfortunately Renee B went down with an ankle injury, another one to add to our list. Hopefully she is back and firing asap. We as a squad spoke about this game being a practice game in which we can dissect the opposition and pick apart their game. We can then go back to our drawing board on Thursday night and reassess further. Thank you to Sara T, Brooke C and Tara B for helping out and playing doubles for the day. Without you girls we would not have been able to field a team this week. Next week we welcome back Courtney O and Michelle W which tops the squad back up and gives us some confidence to go straight through Seaford next week. We ended up going down by about 15 goals this week. Well done again to each and every one, you did your best in the circumstances and should be extremely proud of yourselves. Hold your heads up high and we hope to meet Edi-Asp again in the grand final. Go Bullettes!
C & D Grade:
First week of finals saw us heading down to jubilee park on a Sunday to take on edi asp. D grade started the day with 7 players due to illness and injury. We were also struggling with illness on the court. To our credit the girls fought hard and played really well. Unfortunately it just wasn’t our day. We will bounce back stronger next week after we have a chance to rest and get over the flu and tummy bug. The girls started off the day very strong but ran out of legs in the second half due to not having a bench. Bec O’Leary was strong once again and work tirelessly trying to shut down the GS and did a tremendous job. Laura Mac took control in the mid court and dominated around the ring. Holly and Steph did a great job in the ring however put a lot of pressure on themselves. We can keep our heads up and go to training during the week and work on little things to finesse for next final on Sunday.
C grade had a fantastic start to the game and were next and neck with Edi until half time. We focused a lot on our positivity and controlling the game. The goaling end of Mel and Peyton were unstoppable and were allowed easy access into the ring. Taylah and Courtney combined very well in the mid court and applied a lot of pressure defensively. This saw us going into half time trailing by only 2 goals. Unfortunately the second half got the better of us. We didn’t start the 3rd quarter very well and paid for it on the score board. An injury to Alison saw her come off at 3 quarter time and we were still very positive that we could work on our game despite the deficit. Unfortunately our captain went down with an ankle injury in the last quarter and that really took it out of us. However we are positive that we can work on what caused the dramatic change this week at training and come back stronger for our final next week.
